3 MOST MEMORABLE THINGS- SOUTH AMERICA

CHILE

1.Trout Fishing
The fly-fishing in Chile is absolutely amazing. It is a great place for beginner fly-fisherman with its dense fish population and lack of fear these trout seem to have. You can catch fish after fish while still having a great shot at real trophies.

2.Completos
After a day of fishing you can fill your belly with this cheap, tasty hot dog that is topped with guacamole, tomatoes and mayonnaise.

3.Atacama Desert
Chile is a long, coastal country with rainforest and mountains in the south to the driest desert in the world in the North, The Atacama Desert. The Atacama is dry and it is hot, the best way to take the views in is by renting a bike in town and heading out to Moon Valley to watch the sun go down. Chile has any climate or topography you could want for outdoor adventure.

ARGENTINA

1.Hippies
If hippies with dreads and poorly imitated Bob Marley songs is your kind of good time than El Chalten is your dream destination! If not, you can do as we did and escape deep into the mountains and find a beautiful river and high alpine lake that splits the border between Chile and Argentina.

2.Iguazu Falls
Iguazu Falls in located in the corner of three countries Brazil, Paraguay and at the most northern part of Argentina. It is highly recommended to spend the day in the park, walking the trails and viewing the falls from different angles. We were lucky enough to see monkeys, anteaters and even a caiman!

3.Ushuaia
Ushuaia is also known as “The End of the World” but we will always remember it as “The End of Robs Motorcycle Across the Americas Trip”. Ushuaia is located at the very southern tip of Argentina in Tierra del Fuego. If travelling overland from Chile like we did, you will take a ferry crossing the Strait of Magellan where you can see black and white dolphins!

BOLIVIA

1.Potosi
Potosi is a historic mining town with ‘blue collar’ feel, it is not too much to look at but a trip into the legendary Potosi mine will leave a lasting impression.

2.Salar de Uyuni
Salar de Uyuni is the Bolivian Salt Flat, it is so large it can be seen from space. We booked a tour that spent a few days travelling across the salt flats where we stayed in a hotel made from salt, walked on island full of cactus and saw where salt bricks are mined. This tour continued through the Atacama Desert, driving through the vast, desolate landscapes Bolivia has to offer.

3.Death Road
Death road is another famous adventure for those backpacking in South America, and for good reason. It is 64 kms, 4000 meter descent while riding cliff side with waterfalls… Yes please. Once you are back in La Paz, make sure you try a Saltenas. It is the cousin of the empanada except it has a firmer, oven baked outer shell and is juicy and meaty on the inside. Make sure you get two!

ECUADOR

1.Party
You can find a 24/7/365 party at the small beach of Montanita so if that’s what you’re into, that is where you want to go.

2.Theft
Pretty much everyone we met in Ecuador had experienced some sort of petty theft in the country. After witnessing an organized robbery, where a passenger’s whole bag was stolen (which contained thousands of dollars in cash and valuable electronics), it was a clear reminder not to leave our bags unattended.

3.Nice Roads
All the fresh, smooth tarmac was a real blessing after transiting through some of the other neighbouring countries.

PERU

1.Beaches
The Northern part of Peru has some nice, chill spots to surf, swim or drown in booze. Try the menu del dia; the cheapest and best food in (any) town.

2.Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu may be known as the lost city but it is epic. Tip: Climb the stairs from Aguas Calientes and try to be the first in line. Tip 2: Try and organize, on your tour, an extra night in Aguas Calientes, so you can spend the most amount of time in the ruins.

3.Paracas
Paracas is a must stop in Peru if you like cute beach towns and enjoy viewing wildlife! There is an affordable boat tour that takes you out to the Ballestas Islands; we were able to see dolphins, penguins, seal lions and thousands of birds!

COLUMBIA

1.Medellin
Medellin was modern, fun and surrounded by mountains. This 90’s war zone is a travelling Mecca now and they know how to keep traveller’s hunger at bay with the classic hot dog at ‘Rapido Perro’.

2.Hot Dogs
This dog has coleslaw, crushed plain chips, cheese, sweet chili sauce and to top it all off, quail’s egg.

3.Dress Code
Going to a disco in Colombia? Make sure to look your best or risk standing in line for an hour just to be turned away at the door.
